We are proud to have premiere Chino periodontist, Dr. Richard Hunter, M.S., part of the Hope Family Dentistry team. Dr. Hunter is a licensed periodontist and an assistant professor at Loma Linda University. Periodontics or periodontology is a specialized field of dentistry focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral inflammation, periodontal disease, and dental implant placement. A periodontist has completed three additional years of education after dental school and passed the American Board of Periodontology exam. Having a periodontist on staff at Hope Family Dentistry is invaluable to our dynamic team approach.
PERIODONTAL TREATMENTS AND PROCEDURES
Periodontal (Gum) Disease – “Perio” means around, and “dontal” refers to teeth. Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support the teeth.
Dental Implants – replace damaged and missing teeth with dental implants. Implants are surgically placed into jaw and have an incredible success rate. The benefits of dental implants are nearly unmatched when it comes to durability, improved health and increased confidence.
Gum Grafting – placing new tissue to where little to no gum tissue currently exists. Often due to periodontal disease the gums have recessed and exposed tooth root surfaces. Gum grafting can stop the recession and cover roots.
Tooth Extractions – removal of a tooth from the socket of the bone. Common causes of tooth extractions: advanced gum disease, decay, infection, broken beyond repair and poorly positioned teeth.
Laser Dentistry – allows for immense precision, effectiveness and control. Laser dentistry is used for multiple procedures but often in conjunction with periodontal disease treatment.
